Introduction
Hello, we are currently in Munich, Germany. We woke up this morning around 9 am, ready to embark on a journey to Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Bavaria, Germany. In this post, I will share our entire journey with you for a better tour experience. We’ll be using public transportation to reach this iconic destination.
Travel Itinerary
The journey to Neuschwanstein Castle from Munich involves multiple modes of transportation, especially since it’s Sunday, and the timetable differs from other days like Monday to Friday. It’s a three-and-a-half-hour journey comprising three trains, one bus, and a 30-minute walk. Our expedition begins at the Adagio Hotel in Oberwiesenfeld, Munich, where we prepare for a day of exploration. With anticipation in the air. We set out for Neuschwanstein Castle, making our way to the train station. From there, our route takes us to Munich Central Station, then to Füssen, the town near Neuschwanstein Castle, where we’ll catch a bus and then proceed with a short walk.
Ticket Options
Purchasing a group ticket proves to be a cost-effective choice, or right now you can buy the Deutschland ticket, which should be 49 euros, allowing us to explore the Bavarian region conveniently. With the Bayern card in hand or Deutschland in hand or phone, both are valid for trains, buses, trams, and except ICE trains. Now we’re set for the journey ahead.
Approaching Neuschwanstein Castle
The quiet ambiance of Sunday morning at the train station sets the tone for our adventure. As we board the regional train towards Füssen, we marvel at the scenic views along the way. After a 45-minute ride, we arrive at Füssen station, a town steeped in history dating back 700 years. There we are greeted by the sight of Neuschwanstein Castle towering in the distance. Then we took a bus that would take us closer to Neuschwanstein Castle or from the bus stop, you can catch a shuttle bus to the castle entrance. Despite the cold weather, excitement fills the air as we anticipate the sight of the castle. A 28 to 30-minute walk leads us closer to the castle’s entrance. Upon reaching the base of the castle, the majestic sight captivates us. It’s offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. For those preferring a different experience, horse-drawn carriages are available for the ascent. I found the perfect spot to admire Neuschwanstein Castle as the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the landscape.
